oil92907

Victorian Candle Shield Oil Antique signed oil painted candle shield. Bottom of ormolu? base has incised mark that reads 'OOPER'; lst letter is worn off, but in the photo you can make out an 'H'. Attributed to Henry Hooper, a well-known Boston Mfg. of brass, bronze and metalworks. The painting is signed 'Peterboro'. Stunning fine art, oil painting on board. The painting features a church; windmill, cottage; women and children, etc. Painting has all over striations/crazing. One tiny area appears to be just about ready to flake off just above the windmill, (a professional can correct that very easily). The painting is attached to an metal base which has a lever to adjust the shield up or down. In down position this item stands 15.75 tall x 9 wide, (small painting, but truly beautiful!). Candle shields were used to deflect heat away from a person seated near a candle. It is a wonderful, unique item; a work of art for the discriminating consumer! An item you may never come across again in your lifetime. If you need a fabulous furniture accessory, this is it! USA only. 9/06cryau#

Limoges Jardiniere Antique Guerin Stunning antique Guerin Limoges porcelain jardiniere. c:1900-1932. Features large poppies w/black background. A similar jard, albeit with white background is shown on pg. 149 of M. Gaston's book. This jard is marked, but the mark is hard to see in the picture; the book shows the mark on pg. 134, mark 3, if you need to see it more clearly. No chips or cracks and has a 23 inch diameter; and is 5.5 across top rim; and 5.25 tall. It has one 1 inch scratch on one side, (against the black background), which is really only visible if you have this in front of your nose in clear lighting. A unique quality piece! Fabulous in an oriental or traditional/classic style room.

doulton10819

Antique Doulton Biscuit Jar Sensational antique Doulton & Co. earthenware biscuit jar. c: 1858-1891. It appears to be hand painted and is in 'very good antique' condition. The bottom has a tiny incised mark: 'Doulton', (predecesser of Royal Doulton), and a red underglaze mark: 'A2171', and initials: 'WJ', (artist's initials I presume). Very difficult to get a picture of the marks due to the color of jar and being that the lettering is very tiny and worn; you need a good magnifier. The metal is silverplate, very sturdy, but unmarked; just the interior underside of lid is pitted, see pic#8. The silverplate has become darker since I took the pics; tarnish, as expected, but I leave the polishing up to you. This is a good sized jar, standing 9 inches tall up to top of handle; 7 tall to finial; or 6 tall if measuring up to lid rim. Some faint crazing on body and bottom of jar, really not noticeable unless you are under a strong light; and there is a small discolored spot of spidering on the interior bottom as expected for its age and use. One side of the jar has a crouching hunting dog amongst the flowers, and the other side has a quail. This is an amazing piece of earthenware. I have not come across anything comparable to this jar. shau-11-07

dclimoges0712

Limoges Jardiniere Antique D & C Large antique Delinieres & Co. French limoges jardiniere with gold paste lion handles. c:1894-1900. Outstanding fine art hand painted jard. Purchased in MI at a very old estate that has now been torn down. The owners were said to have entertained politicians, artists, musicians, etc. This jard could be a Franz Bishoff or one of his students since he was in Michigan around the time this was made. It has the spiderwebs and a great deal of depth. I could not locate an artist signature but the bottom has the green D&C limoges backstamp. No chips or cracks but has some minor flaws; however, for being over 100 years old, it is a really beautiful work of art. Flaws: it some gold paint missing on each lion; some tiny white straw marks on the roses but there is glaze over those, and one exterior scratch this is hard to find unless right under your nose. There is also some wear off the gold rim. The interior bottom is worn because it had been used as a planter with live plants in it; it had some dirt still in it when purchased, see pics. Picture #7 shows the intricate spider webs painted on this jard; those are not cracks or hairlines. It is 9 inches tall x 9.25 wide and it is quite fat. Price is firm. USA only; cashier's check only. If you want to order it, please e-mail me your zip code first for a more accurate shipping quote. 10/06thau#202

Haviland French Limoges Display Plate Antique Haviland French Limoges hand painted plate. c:1894-1931, Haviland & Co. Green backstamp: Haviland France, shown as mark 12, pg. 178 in M. Gaston's 3rd edit. book. The painting is very fine and beautiful on this plate. It is a wee bit over 8.5 wide and features hand painted roses with a raised scalloped edge. The pictures are showing it as with a white background, however, it is more of a very pretty yellow color over most of the background. Very elegant, one of a kind gift for any special occasion!

Antique Rosenthal Porcelain Cabinet Plate Antique Rosenthal porcelain display plate. c:1898-1906. Hand painted and artist signed with green R. C., crown and crossed lines backstamp; see mark E, pg. 83 in Kovel's book of marks. Made by Phillip Rosenthal & Co. during the above mentioned time frame. This plate is 8.75 wide with no chips or cracks. The signature is hard to make out but it either reads: Healy or Herle? The plate features various grapes and flowers. One tiny straw mark near rim edge, and some wear off gold on the border edge; very minor age/wear for its age. Very nice painting on this plate. Thanks for visiting More Than McCoy!

teacup50611

Enameled Hand Painted Teacup Magnificent vintage hand painted teacup and saucer with raised enameling. It features deep pink dahlias and a lot of gold! Not marked but who cares! It's gorgeous! Saucer is almost 5.5 wide; cup is 3.5 wide x 2.25 tall. I think it looks like a Nippon piece, but since it is not marked I cannot verify that. The beading and enameling also looks similar to a Dresden cup in S. Harran's book III, on pg. 35. Nippon that was not made for export is often not marked.

Antique Haviland Limoges Plates Antique Haviland Limoges signed berries cabinet plates. c:1896. 2 antique hand painted plates; the price is for both plates = $60/each. One has blackberries, one has blueberries. These are exceptionally fine, hand painted, artist signed and dated plates. Green backstamp reads: H&C over L over France; shown as mark 11, pg. 178, in M. Gaston's 3rd edit. book. Artist initial in gold: M.A.S. '96, -1896-. These plates are very similar, but not identical, and are both 8.5 inches wide; no chips or cracks; scalloped edges with raised scroll work and a lot of depth in the painting. No visible flaws in ordinary light; if you look at them under a lamplight, there are some minor, insignificant scratches as expected for 100+ year old items. These are one of a kind works of art! Pickard Limoges Plates Two decorative cabinet plates for one price. The smaller one is Pickard, the other one is unmarked. The Pickard plate is the one shown in the 2nd picture and is signed on the front: H.G., and on the back in green: Limoges France, and in circle, Handpainted China, W Pickard A. The two marks indicate that this is a French limoges porcelain plate that was hand decorated by the Pickard Decorating Studio in the US before Pickard started manufacturing its own porcelain. This plate features pink roses, sailboat, sunset, lake and heavy gold edge. It is 6 x 6 inches; no chips or cracks. Next is a bit larger unsigned plate featuring poppies and thick, gold trim. This plate is 8 x 8 inches and is likely limoges also. These would be great framed!

Victorian Mother of Pearl Box Outstanding Victorian mop paper mache box. c:1880 according to the auction catalog. This box came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector/sold at a high end auction in MI. Magnificent box that is so much nicer than the pictures show it, (the camera picks up more details than the naked eye). It is mother of pearl & abilone inlay on paper mache. 7.5 x 7.75 wide x 2.25 tall. Some alligatoring of the paper as expected. Likely English, my research indicates it could be early 1830's, by Jennings & Bettridge. Not sure if this was for jewelry or bridge accessories. The perfect gift! dm-auc11-07

English Antique Tea Caddy Gorgeous antique English tea caddy. c:1825-1864 according to my research; the auction catalog says 1850. This came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector and sold at a fine auction in MI. Stunning antique box, much more beautiful than the pictures are showing it. Likely J&B, (Jennings & Bettridge; over 60% were not signed J&B). The lock has impressed 'VR' for Victoria Regina with anchor symbol, and 'Patent' mark. The original key comes with it that does work to lock it and had an old paper label 'No. 401'. This box features mother of pearl and abilone inlay in a Victorian floral design. It has 2 compartments with finials on the lids which are also carved pearl. It is lined with silver tea paper. Box is 4.5 tall x 7 long x 5 wide. It has one small area on the interior underside back of lid which was difficult to photograph that might be a small repaired spot or just the way it was made, but is a minor flaw, and not something anyone would notice without scouring it since it is on the interior. No chips or flakes. This is an outstanding antique. Price is firm; way less what I paid for it; my loss, your gain! au-CC-V-kk-11-07

Antique Moser Enameled Art Glass Jar Gorgeous antique enameled art glass hinged jar. Unsigned, but attributed to Moser. Gorgeous light amber hinged glass jar with enameled flowers and gilded leaves. No chips or cracks, has a bit of wear off the gold on the top of lid, as expected. Bottom rim is very worn, indicative of its age and a pontil mark. It stands 3 tall x 3 wide across top lid. A very beautiful antique glass jar. If it's not Moser it may be Stevens and Williams; other sites show a couple of similar boxes attributed to S&W. Put it on your wish list and have your significant other get it for you! 1/04ddaucc-V

Large Antique Moser Enameled Jar Large antique enameled glass box. Attributed to Moser and I think I have found a signature, although it is very tiny and hard to know for sure, but there does appear to be a word in the glass, along lower portion of body of jar, not on the bottom of jar. You need a good magnifier to spot it. This is a good sized beautiful jar with hinged lid. Enhanced with gilding, and embellished with enamel. Just a bit of wear on the gilding, but overall condition is good, no chips or cracks. Stands 3.75 tall x 4.75 wide. Bottom rim edge is quite worn and smooth, indicating a lot of age. If it is not Moser it may well be Stevens and Williams; ebay is showing some similar boxes attributed to S&W. Well worth this price! ddauMC/1.07

Vintage Blown Art Glass Vase Exquisite vintage blown art glass vase. After researching this item, I would attribute it to either Stevens & Williams Glass Co. or Webb c: 1800's. It is cased satin glass with diamond pattern; known as mother of pearl. This deep amber iridescent vase is quite stunning; much better than the photos show it! No chips or cracks. It has one tiny pin dot/bubble on exterior, see pic #8. It stands 7.5 inches tall. There is some whitish specks mainly near the top fluted rim edges; not sure what that is but I believe this was just part of the glass making process. There are some comparable Murano diamond pattern mop vases, but all the Murano items I have viewed have a white interior; this vase has a beautiful blue interior. This vase is also very smooth to the touch, unlike Murano. The pontil mark is unground and the vase is one uniform color on the exterior, not graduated color, also unlike the Murano. It has eight even flutes/flares on the top rim. The art glass books show some Webb pieces with the mop diamond pattern that date to the 1880's and another glass dealer I know says he found a similar item while researching S&W. Based on my research and experience I believe it was made by Thomas Webb or S&W, and not Murano, but you will have to be the final judge on its maker. It is an exceptionally beautiful piece; the photos just do not capture it's true beauty. 3/14br#

Antique Art Glass Biscuit Jar Antique enameled glass biscuit jar. This is a stunning green glass jar with acid etched initials in script: 'E, then a flower symbol, then G' in script, see photo #3 and enlarge for a better view. Apparently over 300 signatures were used for Emile Galle items and research has shown the same style E, and I have located an early mark that used a capital G, (most marks had the small 'g' and were written as E. galle, but since this is just initialed it would make sense for each initial to be capitalized. I am very confident this is a Galle piece, but I will let you be the judge. In any event, it is an antique jar and gorgeous. It is embellished with enamel and gilded details. Overall condition is 'good antique'; no chips or cracks. Underside of lid is a little bit dented but this fits into the jar and does not show. It stands 7.75 tall and is quite fat. From the estate of Maxine Coombs, Alpena, MI who had a beautiful collection of antique jars and purchased at a high end auction of her estate in Michigan. daucc

austria22409

Austrian Antique Rose Vase Antique hand painted vase featuring roses. c:1890-1895. It is a good sized vase being almost 9 inches tall x 10 wide. There is a lot of depth to the painting on this porcelain vase and according to the archivist at Pewabic Pottery, she is confident this vase was painted by a contemporary of Mary Chase Perry, the founder of Pewabic Pottery, (paperwork provided). She relates that the style is very similar to a large charger in the historic collection of Pewabic. Further research reveals M.C. Perry was a student of the famous rose painter, Franz Bischoff, and the painting is in the same style as a Bischoff piece. Therefore, whomever painted this vase was likely a student of Bischoffs, (this was purchased in MI where Bischoff taught during the time period this vase would have been painted). There appears to be an initial 'D' in green script near handle edge, pic #5, but not sure. Flaws: It has one very tiny fleabite on outer edge of handle pic #7, and just a bit of wear off the gold on the handle as expected, w/some spider lines on bottom. P.H. Leonard was an importer of Vienna china. The bottom has a green backstamp: Vienna, Austria, double shield and crown mark. It has an impressed #55 mold? number and impressed letters: TK on the bottom; mark used from 1830-95. The backstamp indicates this vase was imported by PHL from the Count Thun factory in Klostede, Austria, now called: Klosteresc, Czech. This line of porcelain was supposed to be like the porcelain from the former Imperial and Royal Porcelain Factory, Vienna according to additional research I found on the net. It is a glorious porcelain vase for your collection! 2/09dmaucc-amx

Pairpoint Antique Tobacco Caddy Antique Pairpoint quadruple plate tobacco caddy. c:1880+. Very unique antique! Incised mark: Pairpoint Mfg. Co., New Bedford, Mass. Quadruple Plate with 'P' in center or diamond. #2773. Four bun feet. Two sides open. On interior there is a round attachment, not sure what it is for but it could hold a cigar in it. On the flaps that open on one side is a Chief's head and word: Strong; on other side flap are flowers and the word: Medium. So, presumably, one side is for medium tobacco and the other is for the strong stuff :). The box is 6.5 tall x 5 wide x 5.5. Other ends are embossed cherubs holding things that look like musical instruments; one is a triangle, one is a round tambourine? This would make an exceptional gift for the person who has everything; or as a unique furniture accessory even if you don't smoke! 10/10lag#3365
