oil92907

Victorian Candle Shield Oil Antique signed oil painted candle shield. Bottom of ormolu? base has incised mark that reads 'OOPER'; lst letter is worn off, but in the photo you can make out an 'H'. Attributed to Henry Hooper, a well-known Boston Mfg. of brass, bronze and metalworks. The painting is signed 'Peterboro'. Stunning fine art, oil painting on board. The painting features a church; windmill, cottage; women and children, etc. Painting has all over striations/crazing. One tiny area appears to be just about ready to flake off just above the windmill, (a professional can correct that very easily). The painting is attached to an metal base which has a lever to adjust the shield up or down. In down position this item stands 15.75 tall x 9 wide, (small painting, but truly beautiful!). Candle shields were used to deflect heat away from a person seated near a candle. It is a wonderful, unique item; a work of art for the discriminating consumer! An item you may never come across again in your lifetime. If you need a fabulous furniture accessory, this is it! USA only. 9/06cryau#

Antique Oil Painting Antique oil painting on board. Very nice old landscape oil; I cannot locate a signature on it but backside has old paper label: Favor, Ruhl & Co., New York, Boston, etc. It is 14.25 x 17.5 wide in frame; artist board is 9 x 12 wide. The frame has some damage, especially on lower left and upper right corners (not very distracting), but the painting is quite lovely and very well done fine art. 11/09esaMC

artpottery060911

French Iridescent Signed Art Pottery Fabulous signed vintage iridescent art pottery swan vase. c:1891-1957. The signature looks like F. Gazietto, Vallauris, however, a collector has notified me the signature is actually 'J. Gazielle'; (the artist crossed the ll's like t's, and the 'F' is actually a 'J'. This artist worked from 1891-1957 in Vallauris, France. Judging by the dark, worn, smooth bottom rim and all over crazing, I'd guess it is from the 1920's. The iridescent glaze is gorgeous. It looks like Tiffany art glass but this is old pottery not glass. Very hefty. It is 6 inches tall x 6.5 long. According to the collector this artist also had some connection to Weller Sicard and early Pewabic Pottery who also specialized in this type of iridescent glaze. It has 2 minor flaws; one small chip on wing edge and one fleabite on tail feather edge. The flaws look larger due to close-up shots; but in reality, they are not really very noticeable. It is a deep blue/green but also has amethyst in it; when it is dark out, it looks amethyst. The glazing on this piece is spectacular. This is a heavy piece and quite stunning! 6/11smc

Antique Celluloid Accessory Box Antique celluloid accessory box. This box once held manicure implements. The lid features a lady in a row boat. This box is in quite lovely condition for its age and has a blue silk/satin lining. It is 9.25 wide x 3 tall x 5 deep. It has an old paper label on the bottom and some numbers/letters in blue ink; fairly certain it is a vintage Italian paper label. The perfect feminine gift! Limoges Jardiniere Antique Guerin Stunning antique Guerin Limoges porcelain jardiniere. c:1900-1932. Features large poppies w/black background. A similar jard, albeit with white background is shown on pg. 149 of M. Gaston's book. This jard is marked, but the mark is hard to see in the picture; the book shows the mark on pg. 134, mark 3, if you need to see it more clearly. No chips or cracks and has a 23 inch diameter; and is 5.5 across top rim; and 5.25 tall. It has one 1 inch scratch on one side, (against the black background), which is really only visible if you have this in front of your nose in clear lighting. A unique quality piece! dclimoges0712

Limoges Jardiniere Antique D & C Large antique Delinieres & Co. French limoges jardiniere with gold paste lion handles. c:1894-1900. Outstanding fine art hand painted jard. Purchased in MI at a very old estate that has now been torn down. The owners were said to have entertained politicians, artists, musicians, etc. This jard could be a Franz Bishoff or one of his students since he was in Michigan around the time this was made. It has the spiderwebs and a great deal of depth. I could not locate an artist signature but the bottom has the green D&C limoges backstamp. No chips or cracks but has some minor flaws; however, for being over 100 years old, it is a really beautiful work of art. Flaws: it some gold paint missing on each lion; some tiny white straw marks on the roses but there is glaze over those, and one exterior scratch this is hard to find unless right under your nose. There is also some wear off the gold rim. The interior bottom is worn because it had been used as a planter with live plants in it; it had some dirt still in it when purchased, see pics. Picture #7 shows the intricate spider webs painted on this jard; those are not cracks or hairlines. It is 9 inches tall x 9.25 wide and it is quite fat. Price is firm. USA only; cashier's check only. If you want to order it, please e-mail me your zip code first for a more accurate shipping quote. 10/06thau#202

The Pickard plate is the one shown in the 2nd picture and is signed on the front: H.G., and on the back in green: Limoges France, and in circle, Handpainted China, W Pickard A. The two marks indicate that this is a French limoges porcelain plate that was hand decorated by the Pickard Decorating Studio in the US before Pickard started manufacturing its own porcelain. This plate features pink roses, sailboat, sunset, lake and heavy gold edge. It is 6 x 6 inches; no chips or cracks. Next is a bit larger unsigned plate featuring poppies and thick, gold trim. This plate is 8 x 8 inches and is likely limoges also. These would be great framed!

New Haven Mantle Clock Set Falmouth Antique art nouveau New Haven mantel clock set. Antique gold finish clock with cherubs and matching candle sticks. c:1917. It is called the 'Falmouth' set and is shown in the New Haven Clock book. The clock is all intact and it works. I acquired a key that fits the winder, and the clock keeps good time too but it is somewhat loud so I don't bother winding it. It stands 11.5 tall. The candlesticks are 8.25 tall. Gorgeous set for a mantel, dresser or breakfront! It is very hard to find a complete set. 6/10eagau-v

bulldog110808a

Antique Jennings Bros. Miniature Bulldog Antique Jennings Brothers miniature bulldog. Age est: late 1800's-1920's. The little white specks in the picture are sun glare. He is much better looking that the pictures are showing; deeper, richer copper coloring. This dog is not iron; the metal is likely copper but could be spelter; however, he is quite heavy for his size, (there is a bit of green from exterior copper oxidation on the dog's face). Jennings Bros. were famous for their high quality crafting and rich patination on metalworks; Bridgeport, Conneticut 1891-1950's. Hollow cast metal but no seam or mold lines show. Some wear to the copper finish on hind legs, no change in texture, just some darkened areas, see pictures. I could not locate another item like this by JB anywhere so it could be quite rare. It is 3.25 tall x 5.25 long. The raised JB mark is on the dog's scrotum, (that is how I know he is a male dog :) A wonderful unique piece! flcs11/08
Circa: 1920's

teacaddy10825

English Antique Tea Caddy Gorgeous antique English tea caddy. c:1825-1864 according to my research; the auction catalog says 1850. This came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector and sold at a fine auction in MI. Stunning antique box, much more beautiful than the pictures are showing it. Likely J&B, (Jennings & Bettridge; over 60% were not signed J&B). The lock has impressed 'VR' for Victoria Regina with anchor symbol, and 'Patent' mark. The original key comes with it that does work to lock it and had an old paper label 'No. 401'. This box features mother of pearl and abilone inlay in a Victorian floral design. It has 2 compartments with finials on the lids which are also carved pearl. It is lined with silver tea paper. Box is 4.5 tall x 7 long x 5 wide. It has one small area on the interior underside back of lid which was difficult to photograph that might be a small repaired spot or just the way it was made, but is a minor flaw, and not something anyone would notice without scouring it since it is on the interior. No chips or flakes. This is an outstanding antique. Price is firm; way less what I paid for it; my loss, your gain! au-CC-V-kk-11-07

Victorian Mother of Pearl Box Outstanding Victorian mop paper mache box. c:1880 according to the auction catalog. This box came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector/sold at a high end auction in MI. Magnificent box that is so much nicer than the pictures show it, (the camera picks up more details than the naked eye). It is mother of pearl & abilone inlay on paper mache. 7.5 x 7.75 wide x 2.25 tall. Some alligatoring of the paper as expected. Likely English, my research indicates it could be early 1830's, by Jennings & Bettridge. Not sure if this was for jewelry or bridge accessories. The perfect gift! dm-auc11-07

brassstand90409

English Antique Brass Muffin Stand Patented antique English brass muffin stand. c: 1909-1910. Aka 'dumb waiter'. The plates are not included; just for the display photo. If you've seen the movie, 'Joe's Palace', you've seen one of these in the palatial estate kitchen! A great Downton Abbey item too! These were once used at teatime to hold extra dessert plates, and/or plates w/muffins, scones, etc. This is a very fine antique stand made by William, Tonks & Son, Birmingham England. Clearly marked: W, T. & S, with incised rising sun symbol, Pats 15349, Rd547326. The plate rings can also fold up flat. It is a great piece of antique brass; hard to get really good pictures of it though. 32 inches tall x 8.5 wide x 9 deep. A similar muffin stand is shown in the 6/15 Dumouchelle catalog, the auction estimate was $150-$250 which is usually 1/3 of what a dealer would sell it for. This stand would also look great with vintage teacups displayed on the plates. Or, put little potted plants on plates in it. A one of a kind antique! 9/09est#+

pairpoint83006

Hand Painted Pairpoint Box Antique Pairpoint silverplate box. c:1880-early 1900's. Quadruple plate metal box with gorgeous hand painted and enameled porcelain lid featuring a variety of very finely painted flowers. This box is 5.25 wide x 4 deep x 3 tall. Incised circular mark on bottom: 'Pairpoint Mfg. Co., New Bedford, Mass, #967, Quadruple Plate, and P in a diamond symbol'. The porcelain lid is in good antique condition; just missing one small spot of the metal mesh edging, see picture #6; one side of box is a bit corroded; other sides are just tarnished. Pairpoint is best known for its glass, but originally started out as a metalworks company that also decorated Limoges white wares during the early 1900's; thus the lid is likely Limoges porcelain. A small plain Pairpoint silverplate tobacco box sold for $600 according to Worthpoint! This is a one of a kind antique! est8.06#1511

mantlelusters0515

Victorian Cased Glass Mantle Lusters Elegant Victorian cased glass mantle lusters. Please read entire description and view photos. These are statement pieces! Very Downton Abbey! Large pontil mark on bottoms. Hand painted design with raised enameling and beading. They stand 11 inches tall x 4.75 wide at the top. Some of the glass prisms/lustres have tiny chigger bites on the edges; as expected, and one has a small sliver of glass missing; you would only notice this when removing them to clean them. You will also note these lusters have some small divets/pops in the glass and stray paint marks here and there. I believe those are natural flaws from the glass making process, (like bubble pops), and the hand painting itself. The pink and white coloring is identical; the painted scenes on one of the lusters, have some of the red paint missing but you'd only notice that when they are sitting right next to each other and if looking up close. Since they'd be displayed at two ends of something, the difference would not be noticeable. That probably happened over the years when someone attempted to clean/dust them. The hand painting is on the surface, not under a glaze so it would not be unusual to have some paint loss. These items are very old and the flaws are really only noticeable if you are looking for them up close; if they are just sitting on a mantle or breakfront, you probably would never notice any flaws. I think they are stunning despite the minor flaws. If you use paypal, you must be a verified buyer with a confirmed address, otherwise, write a check. As is, as described.
