oil92907

Victorian Candle Shield Oil Antique signed oil painted candle shield. Bottom of ormolu? base has incised mark that reads 'OOPER'; lst letter is worn off, but in the photo you can make out an 'H'. Attributed to Henry Hooper, a well-known Boston Mfg. of brass, bronze and metalworks. The painting is signed 'Peterboro'. Stunning fine art, oil painting on board. The painting features a church; windmill, cottage; women and children, etc. Painting has all over striations/crazing. One tiny area appears to be just about ready to flake off just above the windmill, (a professional can correct that very easily). The painting is attached to an metal base which has a lever to adjust the shield up or down. In down position this item stands 15.75 tall x 9 wide, (small painting, but truly beautiful!). Candle shields were used to deflect heat away from a person seated near a candle. It is a wonderful, unique item; a work of art for the discriminating consumer! An item you may never come across again in your lifetime. If you need a fabulous furniture accessory, this is it! USA only. 9/06cryau#

Burley Winter Jardiniere & Pedestal Large vintage Burley Winter pottery jardiniere and pedestal. c:1872-1930's Shipping will be calculated after order is placed unless you want to email me your zip code prior to ordering. It would be shipped in 2 boxes due to size and weight. I know it looks small in the photos because I had to stand far away to get it all in! Gorgeous, hard to find jardinaire with the pedestal! The jard is 11 wide x 9.5 tall; the pedestal is 15.5 tall x 9.5 wide; jard on ped stands 25.5 tall. No cracks; just one tiny glaze pop or fleabite on bottom rim of jard. The colors are green, pumpkin and bits of blue. The pattern around the top is one that is not often found, (pattern is shown on pg. 37 of the book). Antique Hammered Copper Vase Awesome antique hammered copper vase. This vase looks a bit small in the photo, but this is a good sized vase. Incised mark: 'Mexico'. This is a really fabulous piece; very attractive with a great patina. Age est: 1910-20's or earlier. Nice condition; quite hefty with wrought iron handles that are riveted onto the base with old deep reddish paint on the handles. It stands 10 inches tall x 9 wide. A great furniture accessory. Mexico is well known for their fine copper and silversmiths. One of the nicest pieces of copper I have on hand right now. 11/09actestblmf#2707

pbrd04042

Signed Vintage Art Pottery Vase Signed art pottery vase. Very unique art pottery. It is a heavy, exceptionally well made matte aqua vase or ashtray that looks like Arts & Crafts/Studio pottery to me. It also bears an incised number and name on the bottom dry rims, however, I could not make out the name, so I put a water-based paint wash just over the incised mark to see if I could make out the name. It looks like there is a G-i-or l, then another letter, then an x, and then I can't make it out. The number looks like 4001 or 4004. (the paint has been removed). This item is in good condition, (the pics show some dirt but I have since cleaned this off); all-over very faint crazing that you can only see upon very close inspection. Again, the pics on this one just do not capture how really well-made this item is. It measures 6 long, 3 wide x 4 tall. Age est: 1920's.

Antique Celluloid Accessory Box Antique celluloid accessory box. This box once held manicure implements. The lid features a lady in a row boat. This box is in quite lovely condition for its age and has a blue silk/satin lining. It is 9.25 wide x 3 tall x 5 deep. It has an old paper label on the bottom and some numbers/letters in blue ink; fairly certain it is a vintage Italian paper label. The perfect feminine gift! Click for more detail...

doulton10819

Antique Doulton Biscuit Jar Sensational antique Doulton & Co. earthenware biscuit jar. c: 1858-1891. It appears to be hand painted and is in 'very good antique' condition. The bottom has a tiny incised mark: 'Doulton', (predecesser of Royal Doulton), and a red underglaze mark: 'A2171', and initials: 'WJ', (artist's initials I presume). Very difficult to get a picture of the marks due to the color of jar and being that the lettering is very tiny and worn; you need a good magnifier. The metal is silverplate, very sturdy, but unmarked; just the interior underside of lid is pitted, see pic#8. The silverplate has become darker since I took the pics; tarnish, as expected, but I leave the polishing up to you. This is a good sized jar, standing 9 inches tall up to top of handle; 7 tall to finial; or 6 tall if measuring up to lid rim. Some faint crazing on body and bottom of jar, really not noticeable unless you are under a strong light; and there is a small discolored spot of spidering on the interior bottom as expected for its age and use. One side of the jar has a crouching hunting dog amongst the flowers, and the other side has a quail. This is an amazing piece of earthenware. I have not come across anything comparable to this jar. shau-11-07

dclimoges0712

Limoges Jardiniere Antique D & C Large antique Delinieres & Co. French limoges jardiniere with gold paste lion handles. c:1894-1900. Outstanding fine art hand painted jard. Purchased in MI at a very old estate that has now been torn down. The owners were said to have entertained politicians, artists, musicians, etc. This jard could be a Franz Bishoff or one of his students since he was in Michigan around the time this was made. It has the spiderwebs and a great deal of depth. I could not locate an artist signature but the bottom has the green D&C limoges backstamp. No chips or cracks but has some minor flaws; however, for being over 100 years old, it is a really beautiful work of art. Flaws: it some gold paint missing on each lion; some tiny white straw marks on the roses but there is glaze over those, and one exterior scratch this is hard to find unless right under your nose. There is also some wear off the gold rim. The interior bottom is worn because it had been used as a planter with live plants in it; it had some dirt still in it when purchased, see pics. Picture #7 shows the intricate spider webs painted on this jard; those are not cracks or hairlines. It is 9 inches tall x 9.25 wide and it is quite fat. Price is firm. USA only; cashier's check only. If you want to order it, please e-mail me your zip code first for a more accurate shipping quote. 10/06thau#202

Enameled Hand Painted Teacup Magnificent vintage hand painted teacup and saucer with raised enameling. It features deep pink dahlias and a lot of gold! Not marked but who cares! It's gorgeous! Saucer is almost 5.5 wide; cup is 3.5 wide x 2.25 tall. I think it looks like a Nippon piece, but since it is not marked I cannot verify that. The beading and enameling also looks similar to a Dresden cup in S. Harran's book III, on pg. 35. Nippon that was not made for export is often not marked.

limoges90525z

Antique Haviland Limoges Plates Antique Haviland Limoges signed berries cabinet plates. c:1896. 2 antique hand painted plates; the price is for both plates = $60/each. One has blackberries, one has blueberries. These are exceptionally fine, hand painted, artist signed and dated plates. Green backstamp reads: H&C over L over France; shown as mark 11, pg. 178, in M. Gaston's 3rd edit. book. Artist initial in gold: M.A.S. '96, -1896-. These plates are very similar, but not identical, and are both 8.5 inches wide; no chips or cracks; scalloped edges with raised scroll work and a lot of depth in the painting. No visible flaws in ordinary light; if you look at them under a lamplight, there are some minor, insignificant scratches as expected for 100+ year old items. These are one of a kind works of art! Lovely to display on a wall or hutch in your formal dining or living room!

Chinese Vintage Cloisonne Bowl Outstanding vintage Chinese cloisonne bowl. It has a faint China mark on bottom. The brass appears quite old and dark on this bowl, but overall nice condition. Age est: late 19th, early 20th C. It is 6 wide from interior rim to rim; or 8 inches from exterior body to other side x 3 tall. I believe the pattern is called: Millefleurs or Thousand Flower. One of the nicest pieces I have come across. 9/11est#

bulldog110808a

Antique Jennings Bros. Miniature Bulldog Antique Jennings Brothers miniature bulldog. Age est: late 1800's-1920's. The little white specks in the picture are sun glare. He is much better looking that the pictures are showing; deeper, richer copper coloring. This dog is not iron; the metal is likely copper but could be spelter; however, he is quite heavy for his size, (there is a bit of green from exterior copper oxidation on the dog's face). Jennings Bros. were famous for their high quality crafting and rich patination on metalworks; Bridgeport, Conneticut 1891-1950's. Hollow cast metal but no seam or mold lines show. Some wear to the copper finish on hind legs, no change in texture, just some darkened areas, see pictures. I could not locate another item like this by JB anywhere so it could be quite rare. It is 3.25 tall x 5.25 long. The raised JB mark is on the dog's scrotum, (that is how I know he is a male dog :) A wonderful unique piece! flcs11/08
Circa: 1920's

marionbronze120510

Rare Marion Bronze Clad Roosters Outstanding vintage bronze clad roosters. Signed: MB, for Marion Bronze. Rare items; I have never come across these roosters anywhere else. They are not as bright as the picture is showing them; the camera is illuminating the metal; they actually have a nice patina on them. This company started producing metalware in the 1920's, having taken over Pompeiian Bronze Co. I believe, and continued until 1971. These roosters have cold painting on the crops and feet. They are very well made, quite detailed and heavy. One of the felt pieces came off the bottom and that rooster wobbles just a bit due to the irregularity of the metal scar on the bottom. They are 8.5 tall x 7 wide. Technically, I believe these are 'figurines' not 'bookends', but they can work as bookends due to their weight. Bronze-cladding is a very difficult metal process that is no longer used. They are absolutely gorgeous! Age estimate: 1950's. There is a pair of MB bookends, not roosters, on another site listed for $1275 at this time. Why not get something unique for your partner this holiday? 12/10antcs

Oriental Vintage Box Vintage oriental box. OUTSTANDING! Gorgeous, VERY HEAVY, likely bronze box with an incised floral motif, and a lined wood interior. It has an incised 'Made in China' mark on the bottom. It had a label on the bottom when I bought it that said: circa 1910, but it is now missing. I do believe it does date to that age based on the weight of this box and the wood interior, which you do not find on the newer imported brass items from China. A gorgeous box to use or display. This is likely an antique tobacco humidor; a similar one is shown in the book on Tobacianna. This would make a great gift for someone who collects old boxes; or just to use a furniture accessory item! 6.25 long x almost 3 inches tall x 4.25 deep

Artist Signed Pottery Vintage Vase Very nice vintage artist signed art pottery vase. c:1947. Signed Hermetz and dated 2-26-47 incised on its glazed bottom; good condition, no chips or cracks. It is very heavy for its size and has some very faint crazing which you only see on the ivory portion if you are looking very close, but other than that, it is perfect for being 66 years old! I am not familiar with this artist, but whomever he/she was, they were very talented. A great vase for a Southwest or Mission style room. Any white spots that appear in the pics is glare from the camera flash and overhead light, (I took these at night). It is almost 4 inches tall x 4.5 wide.

teacaddy10825

English Antique Tea Caddy Gorgeous antique English tea caddy. c:1825-1864 according to my research; the auction catalog says 1850. This came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector and sold at a fine auction in MI. Stunning antique box, much more beautiful than the pictures are showing it. Likely J&B, (Jennings & Bettridge; over 60% were not signed J&B). The lock has impressed 'VR' for Victoria Regina with anchor symbol, and 'Patent' mark. The original key comes with it that does work to lock it and had an old paper label 'No. 401'. This box features mother of pearl and abilone inlay in a Victorian floral design. It has 2 compartments with finials on the lids which are also carved pearl. It is lined with silver tea paper. Box is 4.5 tall x 7 long x 5 wide. It has one small area on the interior underside back of lid which was difficult to photograph that might be a small repaired spot or just the way it was made, but is a minor flaw, and not something anyone would notice without scouring it since it is on the interior. No chips or flakes. This is an outstanding antique. Price is firm; way less what I paid for it; my loss, your gain! au-CC-V-kk-11-07

Daniel & Arter Victorian Biscuit Jar Lovely antique Victorian glass biscuit jar. c:1883. English. Well hallmarked on both lid and rim. 'D&A EPNS H 5799'. EPNS = electroplated nickel silver, aka, silver plate. It glows yellow under a UV light. This item is in good overall 'antique' condition; bottom rim is quite worn and smooth. It stands about 6.75 tall; 4 wide across top rim. It is crystal or cut glass. Once used for tea biscuits, crackers and scones. The pattern consists of diamonds and round concave dots. A gorgeous jar to grace your dining room breakfront! Put it on your wish list and have your significant other get it for you! Elegant Huge Glass Bowl Gorgeous glass bowl. Magnificent! I am not sure if it is cut glass, cut crystal or very fine pattern or elegant glass. It is very heavy and pings like crystal so I am pretty sure it is leaded crystal. Most of the bowl glows yellow under a black light when turned upside down, especially the upper 3 inches of the bowl, but it does not show much age or wear on the bottom rim. It has sharp edges; and throws off a lot of colors in the sunlight. It is 5 tall x 12.5 wide. I could not locate any markings on it. No chips or cracks. It is not a punch bowl; it looks more like a centerpiece, fruit or large salad size bowl. Very elegant for your next formal dinner party! Or, housewarming gift! Estate sale treasure! If you watch Netflix's House of Cards you will see elegant crystal bowls throughout the president's residence in that show. The crystal looks good in traditional as well as modern décor that has grey, silver, pewter, etc. 6/10intest#

artglass3014

Vintage Blown Art Glass Vase Exquisite vintage blown art glass vase. After researching this item, I would attribute it to either Stevens & Williams Glass Co. or Webb c: 1800's. It is cased satin glass with diamond pattern; known as mother of pearl. This deep amber iridescent vase is quite stunning; much better than the photos show it! No chips or cracks. It has one tiny pin dot/bubble on exterior, see pic #8. It stands 7.5 inches tall. There is some whitish specks mainly near the top fluted rim edges; not sure what that is but I believe this was just part of the glass making process. There are some comparable Murano diamond pattern mop vases, but all the Murano items I have viewed have a white interior; this vase has a beautiful blue interior. This vase is also very smooth to the touch, unlike Murano. The pontil mark is unground and the vase is one uniform color on the exterior, not graduated color, also unlike the Murano. It has eight even flutes/flares on the top rim. The art glass books show some Webb pieces with the mop diamond pattern that date to the 1880's and another glass dealer I know says he found a similar item while researching S&W. Based on my research and experience I believe it was made by Thomas Webb or S&W, and not Murano, but you will have to be the final judge on its maker. It is an exceptionally beautiful piece; the photos just do not capture it's true beauty. 3/14br#

Bohemian Ruby Glass Tumble Up Set Lovely Bohemian ruby cut glass tumble up set. Cut to clear etched blown glass tumbler and decanter; (matched set). The pontil mark on the base of the decanter is rough, but on the glass cup it is polished out. The decanter stands 6.75 tall; the glass is 3.75 tall. No chips or cracks; a couple of tiny scratches on the decanter in one spot, and a couple of bubbles in the glass. These were once used on nightstands to hold water/juice. Antique Art Glass Biscuit Jar Antique enameled glass biscuit jar. This is a stunning green glass jar with acid etched initials in script: 'E, then a flower symbol, then G' in script, see photo #3 and enlarge for a better view. Apparently over 300 signatures were used for Emile Galle items and research has shown the same style E, and I have located an early mark that used a capital G, (most marks had the small 'g' and were written as E. galle, but since this is just initialed it would make sense for each initial to be capitalized. I am very confident this is a Galle piece, but I will let you be the judge. In any event, it is an antique jar and gorgeous. It is embellished with enamel and gilded details. Overall condition is 'good antique'; no chips or cracks. Underside of lid is a little bit dented but this fits into the jar and does not show. It stands 7.75 tall and is quite fat. From the estate of Maxine Coombs, Alpena, MI who had a beautiful collection of antique jars and purchased at a high end auction of her estate in Michigan. daucc
