Rare Marion Bronze Clad Roosters Outstanding vintage bronze clad roosters. Signed: MB, for Marion Bronze. Rare items; I have never come across these roosters anywhere else. They are not as bright as the picture is showing them; the camera is illuminating the metal; they actually have a nice patina on them. This company started producing metalware in the 1920's, having taken over Pompeiian Bronze Co. I believe, and continued until 1971. These roosters have cold painting on the crops and feet. They are very well made, quite detailed and heavy. One of the felt pieces came off the bottom and that rooster wobbles just a bit due to the irregularity of the metal scar on the bottom. They are 8.5 tall x 7 wide. Technically, I believe these are 'figurines' not 'bookends', but they can work as bookends due to their weight. Bronze-cladding is a very difficult metal process that is no longer used. They are absolutely gorgeous! Age estimate: 1950's. There is a pair of MB bookends, not roosters, on another site listed for $1275 at this time. Why not get something unique for your partner this holiday? 12/10antcs

bookends1217

Antique End of Trail Bookend Pair Antique End of Trail Bookends. These are super old; age estimate: 1900-1920's. Incised mark: BB. Not sure who that maker/foundry was. These are iron bookends that once had a copper finish. The original finish is quite dark now and there are some rust spots. They are quite hefty and feature an indian with spear on a horse. They are 5.5 tall x 5.5 wide. You could put some oil on them to prevent more rust; or spray paint them in any of the great new colors Rustoleum has like antique bronze; gold; pewter; walnut; etc. They will never be worth a million dollars so you can paint them to match your décor and get some use out of them or leave as is if you love the patina! 12/17

Setter Dog Antique Bookends Great looking antique Setter dog bookends. c:1925. I believe these are Littco but could be Hubley. Hubley also made this bookend, but Hubley did not usually use paper labels like these have on them. These are iron with brass/bronze finish. Good vintage condition. They have old paper labels on bottoms but the words are obliterated from age. These are shown in the bookend book. Rarity is 4 out of 5. These are 8 long x 5 tall. These are listed for $325 at another site, so why pay more? If I get a good deal, you get a good deal! 7/10brcs

German Shepherd Vintage Bookends Vintage German Shepherd bookends. Brass or bronze, not sure; very heavy, but they are not iron. These are shown in the book in the iron made by Art Colony Industries, 1929, but Hubley also made them. Both companies likely made brass and bronze items in addition to iron. They are in good vintage condition and stand almost 6 tall x 5 wide; one has incised #2 on backside top. Old green felt on bottoms. Old copper like finish on the surface. 10/10egau#1069

marionbronze030911

Marion Bronze Polychrome Bookends Large Large vintage Marion Bronze bronze clad polychrome bookends. Titled, 'Man Reading Book'; other sites call it the Old Professor. c:1920's. These are shown in the bookend book; the ones in the book date to 1965 and are signed MB; earlier Marion Bronze pieces were not signed and these are not signed. You can see the aged bottoms under the felt; the later ones are more metallic on the bottoms. MB started in biz in 1922-1971. These bookends are in good display condition; stand 8 inches tall; have some minor flaws common on vintage bronze clad items. The flaws are on one bookend, not both. It has a scratch on one side of bookend cabinet; one tiny tight break on side of mans suit coat; and one very tiny line near other side on bottom suit tip. These minor flaws are only visible if looking closely for them. MB was the longest lasting company in the US to produce bronze clad items and due to the complexity of this technique it is no longer used. These are large, heavy and look great in a library or office to hold books! 3/11smc

Antique Iron Thinker Bookends Antique iron Thinker bookends. These are almost 6 inches tall x 4.25 wide. Nicely detailed. One has a pinhole in it near the man's foot. No idea how that happened unless it happened when the hot iron was poured into the mold and that was a thin area of the mold. It is not really noticeable; pic #6 is a closeup. Nice pair to hold some smaller antique books. Pic 2-3 the flash is on. The price reflects the minor flaw. 5/13scsr

jbbookend1015

Indian With Spear Antique Bookend Antique Jennings Brothers Native American single bookend. 1926. Rarity is 5 out of 5. Book price in 2006 for a pair was $325. Titled in the book: 'Indian With Spear'. Single bookend, very attractive. It stands almost 10 tall up to top of spear x 4 wide. Marked: J.B. 1699 on back, near bottom. It is hollow with a tin bottom, and is made out of gray metal with dark finish. From front display side it is fine; along side and back bottom area there are 2 breaks in the mold, see photos. The break on side could be soddered; the one on the back side would be harder to repair but its on the back corner and does not show from the front. The breaks are common on this type of old metal. It can be used as a bookend or just as a striking figurine on a desk or bookshelf. 10/15

Virginia Metalcrafters Stallion Bookends Vintage Virginia Metalcrafters iron stallion bookends. c:1954. Large bookends with the VM logo on the back and the words: VM Metalcrafters, 'The Stallion', copyright 1954. These are in good overall condition for being 69 years old; just a bit of rust tinge on some areas; you can go over these with some oil to preserve and protect them or paint them another color depending on your decor. They are quite hefty and stand 9.5 tall x 7.75 long x 2.25 deep. They can be used as bookends, doorstops or together as a horsehead figurine. The great thing about these is that you could spray paint them any color to match your décor; e.g., contemporary: brushed nickel/hammered silver; Victorian: brass, bronze; Shabby Chic: white; Arts & Crafts: Copper/hammered copper; Southwest: leave as is. Be creative, antiques should be used unless they are one of a kind and extremely valuable. I saw a pair of these in an antique shop for $450 recently, why pay more? These are 12.5 lbs. in the box so if you are outside MI's postal zone then shipping will likely be somewhat expensive; if you're in my zone, shipping should not be too bad. If you want a more accurate ship quote, e-mail me your zip code prior to ordering them. 11/16

Craftsman Dogwood Bookends P M Craftsman Dogwood bookends. Nice looking heavy duty bookends. This company is still in business; they took over Jennings Brothers in the 1960's and copied some of the old molds, but you can tell the difference by the finish and they are marked PM not JB. One of the bottoms has the PM label and felt; the other one is missing the felt. They are 5.5 tall. One has a little gouge along top rim; not noticeable unless looking down on it, see pic 3. Nice pair to use in an office or library to hold books. Retail price is much higher. 10/11bigcs

bookends1113

Knights Templar Antique Bookends Antique bookends with Knights Templar symbols. These have stairs leading up to a a cross and crown in a circle and my research indicates that is a Knight's Templar symbol. One bookend has more green patination on it than the other. Neither have a maker's mark on them. They are quite old and very heavy. I believe they are bronze and not brass, but you will have to be the judge since I cannot be 100% positive. These stand 6.5 tall x 4.5 wide x 2.75 deep. They weight 4.5 lbs. each = 9 lbs. Age est: 1920's. These are solid enough to hold quite a few books! 11/13smc
