Ransburg Pottery Pitcher

Uhl Pottery Co. in business from 1849 to 1944! Very old American Pottery company that started in business in Evansville, Indiana by German immigrants August and Louis Uhl. After finding a much better quality clay near Huntingburg, Indiana, the plant was moved to that location in 1908. The Uhl Pottery Co. operated out of Huntingburg until 1944, at which time the plant was closed due to economic factors.

Vintage Spongeware Pitcher Very attractive vintage spongeware pitcher.Being sold as a collectible display item, not for food use as it is antique and is probably not up to today's standards for safe food or liquid usage or storage. Heavy duty; nice size. Interior is white; bottom has dry yellow clay. My guess is UHL Pottery due to the white glaze interior, but it could be another company. No chips or cracks; stands almost 8 inches tall. Saw this one at an antique mall and it was priced at $165 and that one was chipped! 1/12smc

Vintage Uhl Pottery Cookie Jar Vintage Uhl Pottery cookie jar. Being sold as a collectible display item and not for food use since I did not make them I don't know what they were made with. Large jar. These jars were decorated at the Ransburg factory. This jar is 10 inches tall. Not marked, but a lot of these were not marked. Cold painted. It has some flaws: many paint flecks off it; a small spiderline on the interior rim; photo #8 is a magnified image. I don't feel anything with my fingertip, so I don't think it is a hairline. It also has a couple fleabites, but it displays well despite the aging flaws. Interior is glazed white. Nice colors on this one. Price is reduced for the flaws. 9/13#kst

UHL Cookie Jar w/Linen Attractive vintage UHL Pottery cookie jar and linen towel. Being sold as a collectible display item and not for food use since I did not make them I don't know what they were made with. According to the UHL book, these jars were made by UHL then hand decorated by the Ransburg Co. This jar has the white gloss glaze on interior, and is in good overall vintage condition. Cold paint is intact, no cracks; a few itty bitty fleabites on lid rim edge, (dab with matching paint if you desire perfection, and some cold paint missing on top of jar rim where lid fits into jar, not visible when lid is in place). It stands about 9 inches tall. A very nice cookie jar for your collection! The vintage linen kitchen towel has blue coffeepot, trivets, coffeegrinders with original foil sticker: 'Parisian Prints, All Pure Linen', RN 14788 come with it. estcs1/07

Ransburg Pottery Pitcher Hard to find globe pitcher actually made by the UHL Pottery Co. and hand decorated by the Ransburg Co. Being sold as a collectible display item and not for food use since I did not make them I don't know what they were made with. It is marked: 'Ransburg' on bottom; see the UHL book for more info. Very colorful old pottery. No chips or cracks; just some bits of missing cold paint, primiarily around top rim and spout areas which is common on this cold painted pottery. This pitcher is 5.25 tall and matches some of the UHL/Ransburg cookie jars I have for sale. The cookie jars are much more common than the sugar bowls, creamers and pitchers. 11/10smc

Antique Miniature Stoneware Vessels Three cool antique stoneware vessels. Miniature size. The smallest has cobalt blue acorn symbol and reads: 'Old Continental Whiskey'; no chips or cracks; bottom rim is somewhat irregular. It is 3.75 tall; some crazing and old cork stopper. The acorn symbol was used by the UHL Pottery Co. The next one has one handle and is 4.5 tall, no chips/cracks. The last one has the original stoneware lid and is 5.25 tall and very old dark worn bottom. I cannot get the lid off this item. These miniature vessels are great if you don't have a lot of space; you can display them on old children's cupboards, or other types of racks. varisx3

UHL, Ransbottom, and Shawnee are the 3 companies that I know of that made miniatures. This item has no chips or cracks and is 3 inches tall. Rare to find these little ones; and great if you lack a lot of space to display vintage pottery. In the UHL book, the minis range from $125 to $1200! 12/14adjpr

Miniature Vintage Stoneware Beanpots Four vintage miniature stoneware beanpots or cookie jars. Being sold as collectible display items only; I did not manufacture them so I don't know what they was made with; they might not be safe for food use. Aqua, Cornflower Blue, Brown, and Matte Lavender. All have unglazed yellow clay bottoms as a Zanesville item would have. These are shown in the ZSC book although a slight possibility they might be UHL or Rookwood since both companies made them too. These stand 3.25 tall x 3 wide. Some have pinpops, (lid of aqua jar); some clay gouges; and the brown one has a fleabite on rim edge, but no other chips or cracks. The lavendar one is extra special; I have never come across that color and I handle a ton of pottery. All have little ear/half moon style handles. These also might have been salesman's samples. labant3/09-ck

UHL Cookie Jar Cute vintage UHL cookie jar. Being sold as a collectible display item and not for food use since I did not make them I don't know what they were made with. Made by the UHL Pottery Co. then decorated at the Ransberg factory. This one has some aging flaws mainly on the lid rim edges, (some small chips and paint loss). The flaws are not even noticeable if it is just sitting on a display shelf which is what you'd do with it anyway. It stands 8.75 tall. These came in a variety of colors and flower patterns. Very reminiscent of old Mexican pottery, vibrant, happy colors! 10/10smc

End-of-Day Rare Vintage Vases Three vintage End-of-Day novelty vases. All 3 for one price. These are hard to find, unique small bisque vases with glazed interiors. They look identical to the ones pictured in the 1995 Vol. 2 book on Morton Pottery by D. Hall, pg. 256, photo #120; but could also be UHL, Camark, or another vintage American pottery company since most of the old Am. pottery companies made similar items. They are 3.5 tall, 1.75 inches wide across top rim, or 2.5 wide from end of handle to other end. The UHL book refers to this type of pottery as End-of-the-day pottery. One of the vases is in very good condition, no chips or cracks. The other has a fleabite on top rim and on the backside of it looks like the color didn't take too well, (it is faded looking, pic #6). 3rd vase shown: not sure if colors faded or if it was just made like this. These were glazed on the inside so they could hold water and be used as bud vases. The exteriors were left bisque and then decorated by dipping them into water in which water spar enamel was floated; see Morton book.

Last is a Dutch shoe style; likely UHL Pottery. Pottery shoes make a neat collection if you don't have a ton of space but like vintage pottery. 9/14ut

Stoneware Antique Bowl Antique stoneware bowl. Some books call it a French pan or milk bowl. Monmouth made the same shape, but I did not see this design in the book. Might also be UHL Pottery. It is 7 tall x 9 wide; no chips; some small fissure lines in clay rim; crazing on interior, a gouge on the upper rim; a couple of glaze bubble pops on interior. It is in what I consider 'good antique' condition. The type of flaws on this type of antique stoneware are not considered to deflate the price unless there are significant chips or cracks. It is a very cool old bowl! 11/08brcs

UHL Pottery Bowl Nice large stoneware bowl. Being sold as a collectible display item and not for food use since I did not make them I don't know what they were made with. These are shown in the UHL book; they were decorated by the Ransburg company. The flower pattern matches many of the hand decorated cookie jars, etc. This bowl has no chips or cracks. It is 4.5 tall x 11 wide. Has one piece of clay waste near side exterior, see pic #4. Not marked, but most UHL that I come across is not marked. Makes a great vintage centerpiece fruit bowl! 5/12gestcs
