crock80610

Large Saltglaze Antique Crock Large antique saltglazed crock. This large crock has tobacco spits, (the large brown glaze drops on exterior). It has an incised band on upper portion, and dark brown, (albany slip), on interior. It stands 9.5 tall x 9.25 wide. It has two old chips on top rim; some areas where glaze missed along bottom portion of rim; but no cracks or hairlines. Overall, it displays great; is sturdy and solid, and will hold your rolling pins, long handled utensils, or just to display with other antique stoneware items! According the experts on antique stoneware: nicks, gouges, small chips, and hairlines do not affect price unless they are very significant. These larger sized crocks were once used as meat crocks and for pickles and other items. Shipping to continental USA destinations only due to the large size & wt. The shipping will be calculated after order is place since it is not yet boxed in packaging materials.

Fitz Art Pottery Vase Attractive contemporary hand formed art pottery stoneware vase. Heavy vase that is signed: Fitz. It stands 7 tall x 5.5 wide. No chips or cracks. It is very heavy and well-made. Junk pottery from China at design centers cost well over $300! This vase looks like something one would find at the Ann Arbor art fair in MI, which features artists from all over the world and their items are very high end. 10/10labcs-r

stoneware80408

Antique Stoneware Flower Pot Antique stoneware pot. Looks like a flower pot but could be some type of specialized food crock. It is either stoneware or possibly redware. The pictures are showing some reddened areas on it, but in real life, it is just deep dark rich brown, called an Albany slip glaze. No chips or cracks and stands 6 tall x almost 7 wide across top rim. It has one glaze pop on side of it. Bottom is very worn and almost black. If you look in the Zanesville or Monmouth books you will see some similar items on the catalog pages. Or, look in the books on redware, and it also shows similar items. I would estimate this dates to the late 19th C, early 20th. A very unique item to add to your collection!

Antique Butter Crock Stoneware Antique stoneware butter crock. Being sold as a collectible item, not for food use since I did not manufacture it and I don't know if it has anything harmful in it. Missing the wood lid which you could replace if you are handy or know someone that can cut a piece of wood to size. This crock has 3 stilt marks on the bottom. It is almost 6 inches tall x almost 6 wide. Some smearing of the cobalt blue glaze. Cool old piece. You could also use it as a unique planter or in a powder room for bath salts, pot pourri, etc.! 1/14

Being sold as a collectible item, not for food use since I did not manufacture it and I don't know if it has anything harmful in it. Pink and blue bands. Incised 9 on bottom. It is 9 inches wide x almost 5 tall. No chips or cracks but does have a few imperfections like gouges, crazing and pinpops which is common on antique stoneware. Nice design on it; not sure who made it; maybe early Hull Pottery Co.? Neat old bowl to display or use for faux fruit. 0/12

antiquepitcher1116

Antique Blue White Table Pitcher Antique blue and white stoneware table pitcher. Being sold as a collectible display item, not for food use as it is antique and is probably not up to today's standards for safe food or liquid usage or storage. A similar pitcher is shown in the 1981 book on Blue/White Stoneware by K. McNerney, pg. 67; see photo #8. The book price on that one was $350.00 The pitcher in the book just has a different shaped handle and a slightly different stencil design. This pitcher is 7 inches tall and has a 2.5 inch long tight hairline with a fleabite on the top of it. It also has some noticeable glaze pops and glaze misses which are common on this old stoneware. See all photos. These pitchers were used at the table for buttermilk and milk and are not easy to find. Since this is really only for display today, I do not consider the hairline as much of a flaw; it displays fine on the other side. Bottom is 5.5 wide. 1/16

Antique Hand Formed Crock Antique hand formed crock. Big saltglaze crock with tobacco spits on it and incised number #6. Good condition but for one chip on the top rim edge; see photos 7-8. The chip is not very noticeable because it is old and smooth. This crock is 10.25 tall x 9 wide across the top x 7 inches wide at the bottom. It also has a couple of small gouges in the bottom which do not show or affect stance. Not sure what its original function was but it is a very nice old piece of stoneware for your collection! 8/16

spoonholder0219

Spongeware Spoon Holder Spongeware stoneware spoon holder. The bottom has markings that I think reads: Clay City IN. This is a company that specializes in sponged stoneware crocks, pans, etc. However, when I went to their website they specify they do not make 'hand formed' spongeware and there were no spoonholders, so this might be an earlier piece from another company in Clay City, IN, because it appears to be a hand formed item. There are ridges on the interior and no mold lines. It is 7.25 tall x 5.25 wide. In any event, it is a super nice piece of spongeware and great to hold all your spoons! 2/19s

It stands 6.25 tall, no chips or cracks. It has a glaze separation line on interior bottom. This is not the same pattern as the 'kissing cousins' pattern; this one is much more rare. There are a couple of blue dots within the glaze and one tiny yellow dot; enlarge photo #2, but not chips or cracks. Very nice vintage pitcher for your collection! 6/15

Blue & White Vintage Stoneware Pitcher Vintage blue & white stoneware pitcher. This is an oldie! It stands almost 5.5 tall. Likely a buttermilk pitcher; just a bit too large to be a creamer. It has some tiny pieces of clay waste; a couple of very teensy chiggerbites, but nothing major, see photo 7. It has a neat dimpled band going around the top of the pitcher. The bottom is very well worn and smooth. Nice piece of blue/white stoneware for your collection! Age estimate: late 19th, early 20th C. 5/18

Large High Back Salt Box Vintage Very attractive large vintage salt box. This looks fairly old on the inside; but the exterior is nice. Age est: 1930's-40's. It stands 12.75 tall x 6 wide. It is not marked so I don't know who made it. It could be a Delft Holland pattern. I put some wood oil on the lid to clean and preserve it; that will dry and not look glossy after a while. Great if your kitchen colors are blue or white! 12/10commcsr

Hand Painted Wood Caddy & Crocks Distressed painted blue caddy and stoneware crocks. Enlarge the photos for a better view. The caddy was just an estate sale item, not old. I distressed painted it and added the 2 vintage stoneware crocks. These are nice covered stoneware crocks. The crocks are being sold as collectible display items and not for food use because I did not make them and I don't know if they were made with anything harmful. One is a Kaukuana Klub with cool picture on it. Other one is dark brown. You could also use the caddy for small McCoy planters, or milk bottles, etc. The color used is a hot new color showing up at antique shows on vintage painted furniture now and really look betters in reality than the photos show it. The crocks are 5.5 tall x 3.25 wide. I have 2 other items painted in this color for sale separately, see photos. Distress painting just means you paint an item, then sand some of the edges; you can sand a little or a lot. It gives an item a contemporary country look, similar to shabby chic, but is not white. The paint is Valspar, 15304, Gloss Peacock Blue. If you don't like this color, spray away! 8/13vs

Miniature Vintage Stoneware Vessels Four vintage mini stoneware vessels. First is the brown/white Paden City Artware jug that is 3 inches tall. It has a noticeable glaze depression in the body of jug but that is just how it was made. Next is a very cool crock with ears and vertical lines; 2.75 tall, no lid. Next is a 2 handles jug with cork stopper that is 3.75 tall. Last is a one handled jug that is 4.25 tall and has faint mark on bottom that I cannot make out. It has some glaze pops on it also. Cool minis if you don't have a lot of space to display stuff. These look cool on old wooden spice shelfs or children's cupboards. 12/12

This item is being sold as a collectible item, not for food use since I did not manufacture it and I don't know if it has anything harmful in it. North Star was located in Red Wing, Minnesota and was affiliated with Red Wing Pottery Co.; I think it preceded it. The bowl is 4 inches tall x a bit over 8 wide. It displays fine; has a couple of small surface chips off the blue band ledge that circles the upper area and a piece of clay waste on the body, see pics 5-6. The picture is a close up and the chipped spot is not very noticeable in reality. Nice looking old bowl and a rare find! 4/14

Click for more detail...

tobaccospit1216

Saltglaze Covered Jar Crock Antique saltglaze crock with tobacco spits. The large brown spots are called: tobacco spits. This is likely a tobacco jar but possibly a cookie jar. It is very rare to find a lid with these old saltglaze crocks. The lid has 3 tobacco spits on it; that is what the large brown spots are called. It is in nice antique condition; just a few minor flaws. There is an old dark smooth chip on rim edge, see magnified close up photo #7. A small fleabite on interior rim edge which does not show when lid is on, and some bubble pops in the body surface, see photo #6. Those flaws do not devalue the price on old stoneware because they are considered insignificant. If it had a large crack or a large chip which was very noticeable, then it would diminish the price. I did some preliminary research for a comparable item on the net and could find nothing similar with a lid. I did find one item in my old Red Wing book that is similar but a bit slimmer shape and that was a snuff jar. This item is bigger and fatter so I don't think it was a snuff jar. So either there weren't many made or they just did not survive the years. 12/16

It also has a small metal flower frog inside. If you go into a designer showroom they charge hundreds of dollars for a piece of junk pottery from a foreign land. Brush McCoy Willow Ware Cuspidor Antique Brush-McCoy Willow Ware cuspidor. c:1916. Shown in the 1978 book by S. Huxford; the updated value in 1996 was $115-175.00, see pg. 60-61. For a clearer image of the pattern on this cuspidor see the book by M. Sanford, pg. 29, top right; shows a chamber pot with the same design on it; and the cuspidor is shown on pg. 31, top right. It is hard to see the design on the dark brown Willow Ware items, and easier to see on the blue and white Willow Ware. Very heavy and is 5.25 tall x 7.5 wide at top rim. It has one chip off bottom dry rim; barely visible when cuspidor is upright. Also has one clay gouge in body of cuspidor, (that is glazed over). It can be displayed with other stoneware; on a wetbar; or used as a planter for a fern or orchid! A great piece for your BM Pottery or antique stoneware collection!
