Hubley Flower Basket Doorstop Antique
Antique Hubley Victorian flower basket doorstop. Colorful iron doorstop and is shown in Bertoia's book on doorstops with corresponding number #69. Also marked with a #2 and a logo. It is 10.75 inches tall. Titled: French Basket. This item has been copied by the John Wright Co., however, this is an antique doorstop, not JWC. The colors are vivid and the iron and original paint is smooth which is indicative of a true antique Hubley doorstop. Newer items are grainy and the paint looks different on newer doorstops. No grinder marks either. It is missing cold paint, but still displays good. Enlarge the photos 2-3 and 7-8 to view the marks more closely. Most Hubley was not marked with the word 'Hubley' in writing; if you see something marked like that, it is likely a newer faux item. 7/16

Vintage VM Dog Doorstop
Vintage dog doorstop. Incised mark: 18-7 Dream Boy, Copyright 1949, V.A. Metalcrafters, and VM logo, Waynesboro, Va., and initials W.K. Cocker Spaniel? This pooch is 9 inches tall x 7 wide and is cast iron. He does have rust tinge, most of it is near the bottom portion. You can leave as is or sand some of the rust off and apply a flat black spray paint like Rustoleum in any color you like! Since this will never be worth a million dollars, it can be refurbished and used! VM was in business from 1890-2005. 7/13scsr

Antique Iron Rooster Doorstop
Antique iron rooster doorstop. This is an oldie! Bottom portion is very rusted. This is a large, heavy doorstop. I do not know who made it. The paint does not glow under a black light also indicating age. It stands 12.5 inches tall x 9 inches wide. It has a scroll design across the bottom, see photo of it. This is a great old rooster for your doorstop or rooster collection. I use some of my doorstops out in my garden beside a bench leg or against posts with birdhouse on them. You can leave as is or spray with some type of sealer to prevent more rust; something like a matte polyurethane. Or, be creative and totally redo it! 7/15

Antique Bronze Cat Doorstop
Antique bronze cat doorstop. Very old, heavy cat. It is likely a Hubley, but I cannot find any markings on it and a lot of Hubley items I have sold did not have any markings on them. This kitty has a lot of green patination due to its age. In the doorstop book it is called the 'Fireside Cat'. It is 10 inches long x 5.5 tall. A very cool cat for your doorstop collection! 8/16

Antique Stagecoach Doorstop
Antique Royal London Mail Stagecoach doorstop. It features 2 gentlemen atop a mail stagecoach. Has the initials: GR N17, and pat. pending on one of the wheels. It stands 7 tall x 12 long. Good overall condition; just a couple of specks of white paint drips near horse's eye. This item is not grainy as a newer cast iron piece would be; the metal is very smooth, indicative of an 'antique' doorstop. It is shown in the book on antique metalware, 2nd edit, pg. 67. A wonderful antique collectible! This item came from the estate of a deceased car executive here in MI; he had very fine items that were in very good condition. 5/06estaucs

Antique Hubley Fruit Basket Doorstop
Attractive antique Hubley fruit basket doorstop. It is shown in the book on doorstops and has incised number: #456 as the book indicates, see photo #5. You can tell it is antique by the paint and iron finish; the paint and iron is smooth and not grainy. It does have some noticeable areas of missing paint, but from a few feet away it looks fine. These are great to use in the kitchen to hold cookbooks in the hutch, or as a doorstop! 8/14

Victorian Iron Flower Basket Doorstop
Victorian antique iron flower basket doorstop. This doorstop is shown in the 2003 Antique Trader book on Metalwares, 2nd Edit. by Krause, pg. 67. It is shown in with multi color paint. I checked the paint on this item under a black light and it doesn't glow, so it is very old paint. Not sure if this was multi colored originally and someone painted it gold to go in a Victorian parlor, or if it came in gold, but it is old paint. It has a #1 on backside; old felt on bottom. It might be a Hubley but I did not remove the felt to check. This is one of the heaviest iron doorstops I have come across. It stands 10 inches tall x 8 wide. A great old piece to use or just display! You could also spray it another color like white to go in a shabby chic room. 6/15
