Brass and Bronze are hard to distinguish because they are composed of the same elements, but in different concentrations. However, you can distinguish between brass, bronze and iron because iron will attract a magnet, but neither brass nor bronze will. Brass also tends to be a bit yellower in color than bronze.

Victorian Niagara Falls Trinket Box Awesome antique Niagara Falls brass trinket/jewelry box. The lid is glass with a picture of Niagara Falls. The picture has little cut aways in it seemingly for a 3-d effect. The interior lid has a puffy silk lining, but this is very worn and torn; on the bottom interior there is an old silk piece of fabric with orchids. This box is quite hefty and the brass is very detailed and lovely. There are also 6 bunnies in the box that you get with it, (they were there when purchased). Age est: Victorian era. A great cross-collectible: souvineer and vintage vanity item! One of a kind. 10/08estcs

Vintage Brass Shaving Accessories Vintage brass shaving accessories for your new, made to look vintage powder room! Great for Victorian or traditional style. First is a brass shaving brush with very thick, soft bristles; and a matching shaving bowl that it sets in! The brush is very heavy and in good vintage condition; the brass on the bowl is a bit tranished, mainly on the part where the brush sits. A nice large brass tray to set everything on. A lovely Victorian double sided mirror, (one side is beveled), with fancy filligree base. A heavy art brass bowl that is signed and looks like a lotus leaf motif. Bottom is marked: Copyright, Geranium, 3-28, and initials that look like V J M; Virginia Metalcrafters? Next is a vintage brass Gilette USA razor. Next is a cool vintage matchholder. And last is a heavy brass soap dish! 11/12vcs

Vintage Brass Box Vintage brass box with turquoise and coral? It sure looks like turquoise and coral on this beautiful box, but I am not a jeweler so that is just my educated guess. Very beautifully made detailed box. It has 6 tiny punch holes in bottom of box and I have no clue why they are there but they appear to be part of the design. Maybe a snuff box? It is 3 long x 1.5 tall x 2 deep. This came from the estate of a former antique dealer. 1/13estcs

Large Vintage Japanese Cloisonne Vase Large vintage Japanese cloisonne champleve vase. Incised mark: 'Made in Japan' on bottom. Age est: 1930's. Very attractive old vase. It stands 14.25 inches tall x 5 across top rim. It is super heavy, not sure if it is brass or bronze. There is some wear on it, some surface pitting, but the overall condition is good display. This vase looks much older than the mark would indicate, but the mark may have been added later in time. Really nice piece for a traditional or oriental style room. 11/12scs

marionbronze120510

Rare Marion Bronze Clad Roosters Outstanding vintage bronze clad roosters. Signed: MB, for Marion Bronze. Rare items; I have never come across these roosters anywhere else. They are not as bright as the picture is showing them; the camera is illuminating the metal; they actually have a nice patina on them. This company started producing metalware in the 1920's, having taken over Pompeiian Bronze Co. I believe, and continued until 1971. These roosters have cold painting on the crops and feet. They are very well made, quite detailed and heavy. One of the felt pieces came off the bottom and that rooster wobbles just a bit due to the irregularity of the metal scar on the bottom. They are 8.5 tall x 7 wide. Technically, I believe these are 'figurines' not 'bookends', but they can work as bookends due to their weight. Bronze-cladding is a very difficult metal process that is no longer used. They are absolutely gorgeous! Age estimate: 1950's. There is a pair of MB bookends, not roosters, on another site listed for $1275 at this time. Why not get something unique for your partner this holiday? 12/10antcs

Oriental Vintage Box Vintage oriental box. OUTSTANDING! Gorgeous, VERY HEAVY, likely bronze box with an incised floral motif, and a lined wood interior. It has an incised 'Made in China' mark on the bottom. It had a label on the bottom when I bought it that said: circa 1910, but it is now missing. I do believe it does date to that age based on the weight of this box and the wood interior, which you do not find on the newer imported brass items from China. A gorgeous box to use or display. This is likely an antique tobacco humidor; a similar one is shown in the book on Tobacianna. This would make a great gift for someone who collects old boxes; or just to use a furniture accessory item! 6.25 long x almost 3 inches tall x 4.25 deep

Vintage Brass Tobacco? Box Vintage enameled brass tobacco? box. Great unique gift! It has black enameling and a wood lining. Very heavy for its size. This is likely an old tobacco/cigarette/snuff box - I base that on the wood lining inside. It has brass hinges and measures 4.75 x 3.25 x 2 high. It also has a small inlaid design on the interior of the lid and box, but I do not know what these symbols mean. The little lever on the front of the box turns so that the latch stays closed. It is a very lovely decorative display item for your office, library, or bookcase, especially if you love quality brass pieces. This would make a great gift for the person who loves beautiful unique items, or the vintage box collector! Age est: early 20th C.

Enameled Brass Double Card Box Vintage cloisonne double card box. This box has a wood lining on the interior that has a partition in it for two decks of cards. The exterior has a dark patina on the brass; interior lid is still bright. I would guestimate this box was likely made in Asia or India in the early 20th C to 1940's judging by the wood interior. It has a brown felt pad lining the bottom of it which I removed to see if this box was marked, but it is not. Good condition and is 1.25 tall; 5.5 inches wide x 4 . A great vintage box for your card table, or box collection!

brassstand90409

English Antique Brass Muffin Stand Patented antique English brass muffin stand. c: 1909-1910. Aka 'dumb waiter'. The plates are not included; just for the display photo. If you've seen the movie, 'Joe's Palace', you've seen one of these in the palatial estate kitchen! A great Downton Abbey item too! These were once used at teatime to hold extra dessert plates, and/or plates w/muffins, scones, etc. This is a very fine antique stand made by William, Tonks & Son, Birmingham England. Clearly marked: W, T. & S, with incised rising sun symbol, Pats 15349, Rd547326. The plate rings can also fold up flat. It is a great piece of antique brass; hard to get really good pictures of it though. 32 inches tall x 8.5 wide x 9 deep. A similar muffin stand is shown in the 6/15 Dumouchelle catalog, the auction estimate was $150-$250 which is usually 1/3 of what a dealer would sell it for. This stand would also look great with vintage teacups displayed on the plates. Or, put little potted plants on plates in it. A one of a kind antique! 9/09est#+

Vintage Fireplace Trivet Stand Attractive brass and wrought iron fireplace trivet stand. This is an estate sale item; everything on it looks old except the 3 tiny bolts on bottom which look new; those may have just been added to replace older ones. The brass has some green oxidation on it; the iron has some tinges of rust and wear. It stands 14 tall x 9.5 wide across bottom legs. A very attractive and functional item. 4/11scs

bronzecandleholders1014

Vintage Bronze Candleholders Gorgeous vintage bronze candleholders. Age estimate: 1920's. Very detailed and attractive. The design features a fish, horn and horse or large dog head. There are 2 tiny indentations on the bottom which I think may be maker's marks; one looks like it could be a B but not sure; they are too tiny and submerged to be sure. These candleholders are 6.5 long x 2.25 tall. Just a bit of green patination here and there, mainly on the bottom and interior or holders. You can't go wrong with something this beautiful in your home décor! 1/14brcs

Antique Bronze Cat Doorstop Antique bronze cat doorstop. Very old, heavy cat. It is likely a Hubley, but I cannot find any markings on it and a lot of Hubley items I have sold did not have any markings on them. This kitty has a lot of green patination due to its age. In the doorstop book it is called the 'Fireside Cat'. It is 10 inches long x 5.5 tall. A very cool cat for your doorstop collection! 8/16

Ornate Metal Candleholders Ornate metal candleholders. Very hefty; I believe they are bronze; a magnet does not stick to them. Some greenish patina on them. Estate sale items; I do not know if they are old or newer items but they are really nice! They stand 6 inches tall. Photo #1 has flash on; photo #2 without flash. Photo #6 shows closeup of a teensy dent on rim edge; that is the only flaw I see on them. scsr1/14
