Antique Doulton Biscuit Jar Sensational antique Doulton & Co. earthenware biscuit jar. c: 1858-1891. It appears to be hand painted and is in 'very good antique' condition. The bottom has a tiny incised mark: 'Doulton', (predecesser of Royal Doulton), and a red underglaze mark: 'A2171', and initials: 'WJ', (artist's initials I presume). Very difficult to get a picture of the marks due to the color of jar and being that the lettering is very tiny and worn; you need a good magnifier. The metal is silverplate, very sturdy, but unmarked; just the interior underside of lid is pitted, see pic#8. The silverplate has become darker since I took the pics; tarnish, as expected, but I leave the polishing up to you. This is a good sized jar, standing 9 inches tall up to top of handle; 7 tall to finial; or 6 tall if measuring up to lid rim. Some faint crazing on body and bottom of jar, really not noticeable unless you are under a strong light; and there is a small discolored spot of spidering on the interior bottom as expected for its age and use. One side of the jar has a crouching hunting dog amongst the flowers, and the other side has a quail. This is an amazing piece of earthenware. I have not come across anything comparable to this jar. shau-11-07

Circa: 1800's

Antique Earthenware Biscuit Jar Antique earthenware biscuit jar with transferware design. Lid and rim has EPNS mark, = electroplated nickel silver. 99% sure it is a Staffordshire jar/pattern. Nice deep cobalt blue with flowers and gold trim and fancy handle. Has faint crazing, and some wear on the gold but no cracks or chips. Also on one side of metal lid rim are two small worn areas; see photos. This is a good sized jar and was likely made in England in the late 1800's. It is 5.5 to lid rim; 7 inches to finial, and 10 inches tall if handle is up. It is a very lovely old jar. Once used on Victorian tables for tea biscuits. 8/08nyant-MC

Antique EPNS Biscuit Jar Antique biscuit jar. The handle has an EPNS mark on it but no maker's marks. This is quite an oldie; made 1800's to before 1917. The glass glows a very strong yellow under a black light. If it is just sitting on a shelf, it looks great; if you look at it up close it has a lot of age and wear; bubbles in the glass; some scratching; straw lines; and the lid has some tiny dents which do not show when it is on the jar; etc. See close up photos 7-8. I polished the lid but not the rim. I leave the fine polishing to you. I think its a great old jar despite the age/wear, if you love authentic antique items! It stands 7 inches tall up to lid finial, not counting the handle. 6/16

Registered English Antique Biscuit Jar Antique Registered English biscuit jar. c: 1887-1888. Beautiful cut glass jar that is in good vintage condition. Interior lid has incised mark which I cannot make out; could be 'LL' or something else. It also has numbers #393 over #210 written on there but you need a magnifier to see this. This lovely jar stands 8 inches tall to top of finial. On interior bottom of jar there is raised letter Rd80632, (English registry mark). It has one bubble in the glass; and some stretch lines on the bottom interior. It glows a strong yellow under a UV light. Perfect for biscotti at your next tea or dinner party or to display on the wet bar or dining room breakfront or china cabinet! est1/09cs-r

Ruby Cut Vintage Biscuit Jar Spectacular vintage ruby cut to clear biscuit jar. This is a deep red jar with brilliant cut away, unfortunately most of the pics show it as a dark, almost purple color. No maker's marks on it. The lid has a teensy ding near edge and polish/scratch lines on it; the former owner must have gone a bit crazy polishing the silverplate, nothing felt to the touch, but you can see the lines/scratches if you're up close. From 6 inches away, it is not noticeable. The jar is 8.2 5 tall up to finial. Very minor wear on this jar; a couple of fine scratches on bottom and some wavy lines in the glass itself. It is a magnificent jar; sorry the pics do not really capture its true beauty. 11/14;sldetsy

biscuitjar0616

Bakelite Cut Glass Glass Jar Vintage cut glass or crystal jar with bakelite finial. Very unique beautiful old jar. Age estimate: 1907-1920's. Not sure if it was for tea biscuits or a barware item. Most biscuit jars have handles, this jar does not have a handle and the lid fits snug over the rim. It is the same size as most biscuit jars and it is too large to have been a sugar jar so it is probably a biscuit jar or a barware item. Bakelite was invented in 1907. The fancy bakelite finial resembles a pineapple. The jar lid was black when purchased; I polished it several times to get the grime off and it still could use another polishing. There is only one letter or number on the lid rim; if you look in the photo it looks like an L; in reality it looks like a number 1. This jar is 6.25 tall not counting the finial; or 7.75 tall if counting the finial. The glass is gorgeous; I only found one chigger speck on it. The silver plate lid has fine scratching which is not really apparent unless looking at it up close. Overall, I think this jar is just beautiful despite the age/wear. You could use it for scones, tea biscuits or as barware for pickles, celery or olives, or just display it with your other biscuit jars or even on the wetbar! 6/16

syruppitcher0918

Victorian Glass Syrup Pitcher Victorian glass syrup pitcher. c: 1800's. Glows a strong yellow under black light. It is very elegant with a few aging flaws. It stands almost 6.5 tall with tin lid. Flaws: the lid has some rust on the interior of lid. The glass has a large and small bubble in it; is has some chigger bites along some of the ribs; a tiny flake/chip off one of the diamond shaped ribs near the lower portion of the glass; and has some fissures or scratches on the handle and some stretch lines in the glass. The bottom has a polished pontil so I'd say it was made in the USA during the 1850's-1890's. It pings like flint glass. None of the flaws are apparent from 10 inches away. See all photos showing the flaws. It's a nice addition to your collection as long as you don't mind aging flaws! 9/18

Van Bergh Antique Biscuit Jar Antique biscuit jar. The lid is marked: Van Bergh, Rochester New York, Quadruple Plate, 3105. c: 1892-1925. Not sure if the VB company just made the metal lid or id they made the jar too. Sometimes different makers made the metal and the glass. The glass looks like a thick Satin glass with yellow and pink roses; Mt. Washington?. It has no chips or cracks and is heavy. The underside of lid which doesn't show is dented a bit. This big jar is 8.25 up to the finial on the lid. I did not attempt to polish this lid because quadruple plate does not polish well; it will usually leave splotches in the metal. Price reduced for age/wear flaws. A neat antique for your biscuit jar collection! 1/19st

The glass glows yellow under a black light and the glass is very nice and clear. The lid has some tiny tarnish dots and the bottom of jar has some light scratches. Age estimate: 1890 to 1916. It stands 6 inches tall up to lid rim; 7.5 tall to top of the finial. Great for a wetbar to store pickles, scones, tea biscuits, etc. The lid also has a vent apparatus on the interior which I forgot to photograph. A beautiful antique jar to use or showcase! 4/23scs

Antique Art Glass Biscuit Jar Antique enameled glass biscuit jar. This is a stunning green glass jar with acid etched initials in script: 'E, then a flower symbol, then G' in script, see photo #3 and enlarge for a better view. Apparently over 300 signatures were used for Emile Galle items and research has shown the same style E, and I have located an early mark that used a capital G, (most marks had the small 'g' and were written as E. galle, but since this is just initialed it would make sense for each initial to be capitalized. I am very confident this is a Galle piece, but I will let you be the judge. In any event, it is an antique jar and gorgeous. It is embellished with enamel and gilded details. Overall condition is 'good antique'; no chips or cracks. Underside of lid is a little bit dented but this fits into the jar and does not show. It stands 7.75 tall and is quite fat. From the estate of Maxine Coombs, Alpena, MI who had a beautiful collection of antique jars and purchased at a high end auction of her estate in Michigan. daucc

Vintage Cut Glass Biscuit Jar Vintage cut glass English biscuit jar. Incised: EPNS Made in England mark on rim. Some minor scratching on body of jar and some bubbles; well worn bottom rim. It looks like it was used as intended but I think it is very pretty despite the age/wear. It stands 7.75 tall and has a rayed cut bottom center. Age est: 1920's-40's. And, since it has some age/wear, you can actually use it instead of just displaying it! clest9/09#

Antique Fruit Syrup Pitcher Antique syrup pitcher with fruit design. c: pre 1917. Glows yellow under black light indicating it was made before 1917. Very neat antique pitcher with tin lid and raised strawberries and leaves on it. It stands 7 inches tall. The glass is quite clear; just the bottom is very aged and opaque. The interior glass spout has some fleabites and crackles in it, but that does not show when lid is closed and I doubt you'd want to use it for anything but display with other antique glass items. See photo #5. Start an antique glass syrup pitcher collection! 11/15

Cut Glass Biscuit Jar Antique Beautiful antique cut glass biscuit jar. Silverplate rim of jar has a tiny mark: 2398 N/- and a tiny P over that, which is why I think this might be a Pairpoint Glass item. The lid is tarnished and the edges of it are a bit uneven. You can polish the lid. Despite the minor lid flaws this is a good sized jar that displays beautifully in the curio cabinet or use if for biscotti, tea biscuits, small cookies, mints, etc. It is 7 tall x 5 wide at bottom. 7/10vw-mc

Glass Syrup Pitchers Antique Antique glass syrup pitcher trio. You can buy individually or in this grouping. The two taller ones are antique; the small one is vintage. The tall ones glow yellow under a black light so were made prior to 1917. The tallest one has a strawberry and leaf design with zinc or tin lid. This pitcher is 7 inches tall. The glass is quite clear; just the bottom is very aged and opaque. The interior glass spout has some fleabites and crackles in it, but that does not show when lid is closed and I doubt you'd want to use it for anything but display with other antique glass items. You can see close up of it under its individual item number. The mid size pitcher is 5.5 tall; fat body with tin or zinc lid and a rayed pattern. The smaller one has some leftover red paint on lid rim and incised mark: Pat. and a number that I cannot make out. It is 4.5 tall; it doesn't glow yellow but is old glass. Neat old glassware for your glass, kitchen or pitcher collection! 12/15
