Vintage Transferware turkey platter. Large platter; it is not porcelain or earthenware. It feels like it might be ironstone. It is 18.5 long x almost 14 wide. It looks like some of it is hand painted under glaze and there is a stray blue dot under the glaze on it, see photo #5. The backside also has some stray paint under the glaze as well as a small gouge in the backside edge of the platter, photos #6-7. That gouge is not a chip because it is glazed over; just an imperfection. There are no maker's marks on it; I doubt if this tray was for oven use, but was likely just used to put the turkey on once it was cooked. 10/18 |
