Manufacturer: Zanesville Stoneware Co.
Massive mauve oil jar, aka floor vase. It is 18.5 inches tall. I attribute this to the Zanesville Stoneware Co. after reviewing my book and based on my expertise collecting ZSC for over 35 years. The book shows the same shape jars and they made in this color, (the color in the book is called matte lavendar). Yellowish clay on bottom. Thick and heavy duty. No mold lines; some ridges so I assume it was hand formed on a pottery wheel. It has an incised USA mark on bottom. Great for indoors or out. If you want to use outdoors, drill a hole in center bottom for drainage. No chips or cracks; nice condition. Other companies that made similar jars are McCoy, Brush, and Ransbottom. However, Ransbottom usually marked their wares, and used 'tan' clay, not 'yellow' and McCoy wares are not quite as thick and hefty as ZSC. This vase will last a few more lifetimes! 6/12clestcsr |
